Privacy Policy
Introduction
Welcome to Snooz ("we," "us," or "our"). Snooz is a Chrome extension designed to help you save, organize, and manage your browser tabs and bookmarks. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you install and use Snooz. While Snooz currently stores most data locally in your browser, we outline below both our present practices and how we may handle additional data in the future. By downloading or using the Snooz extension, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
1. Data Stored Locally (Current Practice)
Tab and Bookmark Data. When you save open tabs, bookmarks, folders, notes, or tags in Snooz, all of that information is stored locally within your Chrome browser's storage on your device. We do not currently transmit this content to any external server or cloud.
Extension Settings. Your preferences (e.g., dark mode toggle, default folder view, notification settings) are also kept locally in your browser's storage.
2. Usage Analytics & Crash Reporting (Current and Future)
Even though your tab and bookmark content remains local, Snooz integrates analytics and error‐logging services to help us understand how the extension is used, identify bugs, and improve performance. We may collect and transmit the following:
Event Data. Which features you interact with (e.g., "Snooze Tab," "Create Folder," or "Restore Session"), button clicks, menu navigation, and other in‐extension events. These events are sent to third‐party analytics platforms such as PostHog and Google Analytics.
Crash and Error Reports. If the extension crashes or encounters a runtime error, we may automatically collect a stack trace, browser version, operating system, and other debugging information. This data is transmitted to services like Sentry (or similar crash reporting tools).
Device Identifiers & Network Information. Analytics and crash‐reporting tools may collect your IP address (or an anonymized/hash of it), a randomly generated device identifier, browser user agent string, screen resolution, and time zone to help diagnose issues, measure performance, and generate usage statistics.
Note: All analytics and crash‐reporting data is collected at an aggregate level. We do not—a) pair your real name or email with these analytics events unless you explicitly opt in through a future feature, or b) share identifiable usage data publicly.
3. Potential Future Data Collection
In order to expand Snooz's capabilities (e.g., cloud backups, cross‐device sync, personalized features), we may introduce new data practices down the line. Below are examples of data we may collect or request if and when we roll out these optional features:
User Accounts & Authentication.
- Email Address. To create or recover your Snooz account for cloud backup or sync.
- User Name or Display Name. For personalization, team sharing, or social features.
- Password or OAuth Tokens. Securely hashed/stored credentials or third‐party sign-in tokens (e.g., Google, Microsoft).
Cloud Backup / Sync Data.
- Tab and Bookmark Metadata. Titles, URLs, folder structures, notes, tags—all of which you choose to back up to our servers or a third‐party cloud storage provider.
- Timestamps & Versioning. To help you roll back to a previous session or restore an earlier backup.
Additional Analytics / Third-Party Integrations.
- Feedback & Support. If you submit bug reports, feature requests, or feedback via an embedded widget, you might share your email address, screenshots, or detailed descriptions.
- Social Login or Sharing. If Snooz adds a "Share with Team" feature, we may integrate a social-login SDK (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, or Google) that grants us access to basic profile information (name, profile photo, email) if you choose to authorize it.
- Optional Marketing Communications. If you opt in to receive newsletters or product updates, we may collect and store your email address and preferences.
How We Use Your Information
Core Functionality & Local Features
Saving & Restoring Tabs/Bookmarks. To keep track of your saved sessions, organize folders, and restore content when you choose.
Applying Preferences. To remember your theme selection, default folder view, notification settings, and other in‐extension choices.
Analytics & Product Improvement
Usage Tracking. We analyze aggregated event data (feature usage, retention metrics) to identify popular features, detect usability issues, and inform product roadmaps.
Crash Diagnostics. We use error reports to pinpoint bugs, fix crashes, and enhance stability across different Chrome versions and operating systems.
Communication & Support
Support Requests. If you submit a bug report or request via embedded forms or email, we use your provided contact information to respond and resolve issues.
Product Updates & Newsletters. Only if you explicitly opt in, we may send you periodic emails about new features, major bug fixes, or important announcements.
Optional Account-Based Features (Future)
Account Verification. Use your email/password or OAuth credentials to authenticate your identity for cloud backup or cross-device syncing.
Cloud Storage & Sync. Store encrypted copies of your tabs/bookmarks on our servers (or a trusted third-party provider), allowing you to access your data from multiple devices.
How We Share Your Information
Service Providers & Subprocessors. We may share data with third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting, email delivery, payment processing). These providers can access only the information necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to maintain confidentiality and security. Examples include:
- Hosting & Storage. AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or other GDPR-compliant cloud platforms (for future account or backup features).
- Analytics & Error Logging. PostHog, Google Analytics, Sentry, or similar services that process event data or crash reports.
- Email & Notification Services. Mailgun, SendGrid, or other email/SMS providers (only if you opt into marketing, password recovery, or notifications).
Legal Compliance & Protection. We may disclose information if required by law—such as responding to a subpoena, court order, or government request—or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or ensure the safety of our users.
Business Transfers. If Snooz merges with or is acquired by another company, or sells its assets, your data (both local and server-stored, if applicable) may be transferred to the acquiring entity. In such an event, we will notify you in advance and provide a chance to opt out or delete your account.
Your Consent. We will share information with third parties only when you explicitly authorize such sharing (for example, enabling a "Share session with a friend" feature or integrating with a team-collaboration tool).
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Local Storage & IndexedDB. Snooz primarily uses Chrome's localStorage and IndexedDB APIs to keep your tab/bookmark data and settings on your device.
Cookies & Tracking Pixels. If we deploy an optional web-based dashboard (e.g., a companion site where you can log in and manage backups), that site may use cookies or similar technologies to authenticate sessions, remember login status, and track user preferences.
Third-Party Cookies. When you interact with embedded analytics scripts (e.g., Google Analytics), cookies may be set by those providers to measure user sessions, referrals, and retention. You can disable or block cookies via your browser settings, but doing so may limit certain features or prevent some analytics from functioning.
Data Retention
Local Data. Your tab and bookmark data remains on your device until you choose to delete it. Uninstalling Snooz will remove the stored data unless you have chosen to back it up to a cloud service.
Analytics & Crash Logs. Aggregated usage events and error reports are retained by our analytics providers (PostHog, Google Analytics, Sentry) according to their retention policies. We periodically purge outdated or anonymized data in accordance with best practices.
Account-Related Data (Future). If you sign up for a user account or opt into cloud backup, we will retain your encrypted backup files, email address, and any account metadata so long as your account is active. When you request deletion of your account, we will remove or anonymize your data within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law (e.g., for billing, fraud prevention).
Data Security
We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect the data we collect and store—both locally and on any servers we use or intend to use in the future. These measures include:
Local Encryption (Future). Any tab/bookmark backups transmitted to our servers will be encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and encrypted at rest using industry-standard algorithms (e.g., AES-256).
Access Controls. Only authorized Snooz personnel or subprocessors have access to production environments and encryption keys. We enforce multi-factor authentication for any administrative access.
Regular Audits & Updates. We conduct periodic vulnerability scans and security assessments on our extension code and server infrastructure. We promptly release updates or patches if any security issues are discovered.
Secure Third-Party Partners. We carefully vet all analytics, hosting, and email providers to ensure they adhere to recognized security standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, etc.).
Important: Despite our efforts, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting our servers, we will comply with applicable laws, notify affected users when required, and take steps to mitigate harm.
Third-Party Services & Integrations
Snooz relies on a variety of third-party providers to operate, analyze, and improve the extension. Below is a non-exhaustive list of services that may collect or process data on our behalf:
- Analytics & Metrics. PostHog, Google Analytics, or similar platforms that collect aggregate usage data, event funnels, and retention metrics.
- Crash Reporting & Debugging. Sentry or similar tools that gather error logs, stack traces, browser versions, and device information in the event of extension crashes.
- Cloud Hosting & Storage. AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or other providers used if/when we introduce account features or cloud backup.
- Email & Communication. SendGrid, Mailgun, or other mailing services used for sending account-related notifications or marketing emails (only if you opt in).
- Social or OAuth Providers (Future). Google Sign-In, GitHub OAuth, or other identity providers if we add a sign-up/login flow.
Each third party has its own privacy policy and practices. We encourage you to review their respective policies before providing any personal data or enabling optional features that integrate with these services.
Your Rights and Choices
Access, Correction, Deletion
Local Data. You can view, edit, or delete any saved tabs, bookmarks, folders, or notes directly within the Snooz interface. Uninstalling Snooz removes all local data.
Account-Based Data (Future). Once account features are available, you will be able to log into a web dashboard or use an in-extension interface to access, correct, or delete your personal information (email, backups, profile settings).
Opting Out of Analytics & Tracking
Extension Analytics. If you prefer not to share usage or crash data, you can toggle "Disable Analytics" in Snooz's settings panel. Please note that disabling analytics may limit our ability to diagnose bugs or improve future versions.
Cookie Preferences. If a Snooz web dashboard is introduced, you may manage or block cookies via your browser settings. However, blocking certain cookies could prevent the dashboard from functioning properly.
Marketing Communications
If and when you opt in to receive newsletters or promotional emails, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any email or by updating your preferences in the Snooz settings.
Browser & Extension Permissions
You may review and revoke Snooz's permissions in Chrome's Extensions page (chrome://extensions). Removing key permissions (e.g., "tabs" access) could disable core Snooz features like saving or restoring tabs.
Children's Privacy
Snooz is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete that information promptly.
International Data Transfers
If we introduce account features or cloud backups, and you reside outside the European Economic Area (EEA), please note that your data may be stored or processed on servers located in other countries (e.g., the United States). We will implement appropriate safeguards—including Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms—to comply with applicable data protection laws.
Updates to This Privacy Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy as Snooz evolves, new features are added, or legal requirements change. When we make significant updates (for example, introducing user accounts or cloud backup), we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
- Provide in-extension notifications or send an email (if you have opted in) outlining the material changes.
Your continued use of Snooz after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using Snooz and uninstall the extension.
